Thermo-Ash

THERMO-ASH – Thermo-Ash Facade Board is a relatively new product on the market. The thermal modification of wood makes potential non-resistant wood species for outdoor use a great alternative to natural wood meeting these requirements. Heating the wood under vacuum to a temperature of around 200 degrees Celsius etches all the tannins out of the wood and its moisture content drops to between 3-6% improving its physical properties enormously.

• Wooden facades from Thermo-Ash are produced from the best sorted boards in terms of mechanical defects and knots. The mentioned imperfections disqualify the wood in heat treatment. The heat treatment process of Ash increases the resistance of this species to Class 2 and allows this type of wood to be used unprotected in outdoor conditions.
• The colours of Thermo-Ash after heat treatment are rather dark, noble browns. In addition, the protection of the wood with external impregnating agents (oil, wax) is mandatory, as Thermo wood reacts very quickly to UV rays by fading and losing its acquired brown colour. Untreated Thermo Ash develops a very nice patina over time, but unlike WRC, it is virtually impossible to return it to its previous brown colour.
• The Thermo-Ash Facade Board has on average 40% more stability than untreated timber and therefore retains its volumetric dimensions, making the installation process and subsequent use of the timber facade much easier.
• Very good insulating properties classify Thermo-Ash as a high-quality exterior facade material.
• As with all wood, in order to avoid corrosion, metal fasteners should be used only in aluminium, stainless steel or deep galvanised
