Origin – North America
General characteristics – Sapwood is creamy white with a slight reddish-brown shade. Heartwood ranges in colour from light to dark reddish brown. Depending on the area of origin, the amount of darker heartwood can vary greatly. Heart flecks can be found in maple wood. Maple has a fine texture and is usually rectilinear, although sometimes, especially in veneers, it can appear as transom or bird's eye.
Use – Flooring, furniture, panelling, kitchen cabinets, worktops and domestic use tops, joinery products: stairs, handrails, doors and profiles.

- Mechanical properties: good workability; pre-drilling is recommended before nailing. It sticks well and accepts stain.
- Modulus of elasticity: 12.6 GPa
- Volumetric shrinkage: 11.9%
- Specific gravity: 750 kg/m3 (12%)
- Durability: Not resistant to the destructive effects of fungi
- Dry wood pests: resistant – risk limited to sapwood penetration
- Protections: class 3-4 – poorly or non-accepting
