American white oak (Quercus alba)
Origin – North America
General characteristics – American white oak closely resembles European oak in colour and appearance. Sapwood is light in colour, heartwood light or dark brown. White oak is predominantly straight-grained, with a medium to broad grain texture. Compared to red oak, white oak has more "expression".
Applications – Structural components, furniture, flooring, indoor and outdoor joinery, mouldings, doors, kitchen furniture, panelling, railway sleepers, wooden bridges, barrels and coffins

28 mm – KD – SE edged – FAS PRIME grade
32 mm – KD – SE edged – FAS grade
52 mm – KD – SE edged – FAS PRIME grade
- Mechanical properties: good workability; pre-drilling is recommended before nailing. Due to the chemical reaction between the tannins in the wood and the iron, galvanised nails are recommended. Not ideal for adhesives, accepts stain well.
- Modulus of elasticity: 12.3 GPa
- Volumetric shrinkage: 12.6%
- Specific gravity: 770 kg/m3 (12%)
- Durability: species resistant to destructive fungal attack
- Dry wood pests: resistant – risk limited to sapwood penetration
- Protections: class 1-2 – accepts preservatives
