American ash (Fraxinus sp.)
Origin – North America
General characteristics – It is very similar to European ash in its appearance and properties. Sapwood is light, almost white, while heartwood can be greyish brown, light brown or yellow with a touch of brown. The wood structure is characterised by a parallel, uniform and wide pattern.
Applications – Furniture, flooring, doors, interior fittings, quality carpentry products, profiles and mouldings, kitchen fronts, panelling, tool handles, sports equipment and turned pieces

- Mechanical properties: good workability. Not problematic for driving nails and screws, and adheres well. It is easy to colour and a very smooth, high-quality surface can be achieved with post-processing.
- Modulus of elasticity: 12 GPa
- Volumetric shrinkage: 10.7%
- Specific gravity: 670 kg/m3 (12%)
- Durability: Not resistant to the destructive effects of fungi
- Dry wood pests: resistant – risk limited to sapwood penetration
- Protections: class 1-2 – accepts preservatives
